The Mariner

Welcome to the official page of The Mariner! If you're interested in joining The Mariner, are a current member of The Mariner, or are just plain interested in it, this is the place to be.

The Philosophy
This ship's philosophy ties directly with the early concept of United Nations peacekeeping in the late 90's. Small groups of lightly armed soldiers wearing baby-blue coloured helmets or berets would perform various peaceful tasks. Operations performed by these peacekeepers involved positioning themselves between two warring armies to ensure a ceasefire, or coming to the aid of a nation in distress. So, you may ask, how does this tie in with the Matrix Online? Well, think of the Machinist faction as the UN, and the Exile and Zionist factions as non-UN countries. Should a machinist clan come under an unprovoked attack, we will be there to assist. Should hostility arise between two machinist clans, we will be there to intervene and attempt to bring peace.

As you can see, the philosophy of the ship applies more to clan-based interactions rather than individual actions. As an individual, you are mostly free to do what you wish, so long as it's not in blatant violation of The Collective rules or the Mariner's code of conduct. But, should our services be needed, you will be required to perform your peacekeeping duties to your fullest abilities. Orders from your captain will be followed to the letter: if the Captain says to sit in the middle of a conflict, then you sit in the middle of a conflict. If the captain says to engage a clan which is violating an agreement, then you engage that clan. If the Captain says to withdraw, then you withdraw without question. Following the latter order is quite possibly the most important one of them all.

The Code of Conduct
As a member of this faction, you are expected to follow this code of conduct:
-You will not say anything likely to cause obvious offense (ie: flaming) towards any MxO player regardless of their faction association. This includes racial comments, mockery, etc.
-Respect towards your captain and The Collective council members will be maintained at all times
-You will not attack a member of any clan at any time unless it is an act of self-defence or an order from your commander (be it the captain, or his lieutenant).
Always remember that each one of you represents this ship and what it stands for.

Joining
If you wish to join this very selective crew, you need to be able to show me that you would uphold our principles and philosophy. If you believe you can, then start a thread on the Mariner Forum and outline your chracter, why you should be on this crew, and what position you would like.

Finally, please understand that the majority of persons who apply for this ship will not be accepted. I am incredibly picky about who serves under me.
